Classification of Computer basis on Generations

Classification of computer basis on Generations -

There are five Generations that are given below--

Generation --

Generation, in Computer talk is a step in technology, the term Generation was use to distinguist between varying hardware and software technologies.

(i)First generation(1942-1954) –

Example of this computer are UNIVAC-1, IBM 701, IBM 650, IBM 1401 etc. The Characteristic features of first Generations Computers are as follows—

(a) They were too large in size requaring large room for for instralation.

(b)Thousands of Vacum tubes that were used emitted large amount of heat and burnt of frequent therefor need of A.C. room.

(c) As Vacuum tubes use filament, they had a limited life , so it requard constant mentainent.

(d)The Comrcial production of this computer was difficult and costly

(ii) Second Generation(1955-1964)---

Example of this computer are IBM 7070, IBM 7090, IBM 1620 etc. The Characteristic features of second generation computers are given below—

(a) They work more and faster than the first generation computers.

(b) Transistor used in this generation .

(c) They were much smaller than the first genration computer so requaring smaller space.

(d) They consuming much less power than first genration.

(e) They are more reliable and less pron to hardware failers than the first generation computer.

(iii) Third Generation(1964-1975)—

Example of this computer are IBM 370, NAV7500 etc. The Characteristic options of third generation computers area unit given below—

(a) They work additional and quicker than the second generation computers.

(b) They were much smaller than the second genration computer so requaring smaller space.

(c) Intigrated Carcit (I.C.) used in this genration. Small Scil Itigration(S.S.I.) and Midiam Scil Itigration (M.S.I) are used in this generation.

(d) They had faster and larger primary and secondry storage than the second genration.

(iv)Fourth Genration(1975-1989)----

Example of this computer are MINI COMPUTER, PERSONAL COMPUTER etc. The Characteristic options of Fourth generation computers area unit given below—

(a) They work additional and quicker than the third generation computers.

(b) They were much smaller than the third genration computer so requaring smaller space.

(c) Larg scal of I.C. and Micro-Processor used in this genration.

(v)Fiveth Genration(1989 - Present)-----

Example of this computer are Laptop, Palm Computer etc. The Characteristic features of Fiveth generation computers are given below—

(a) They work additional and quicker than the fourth generation Computers.

(b)They are much smaller than the fourth genration computer so requaring smaller space.

(c)Extra Larg scal of I.C. and Micro-Processor used in this genration.
